After production was halted by GM for their prestigious
Pontiac GTO, a classic piece of American Muscle Car history in its own right, the
Pontiac G8 was introduced. It featured an interesting rear-wheel drive
system and a more family-friendly perspective to a powerful vehicle, as
it was primarily featured as a 4-door sedan. Like its predecessor before
it, the G8 was actually being manufactured by
Holden in Australia as a Commodore before being rebranded in the States.
Despite the rear-wheel drive being an interesting take on a sedan of its
make, and the overall design being arguably ahead of its time, the G8
did not fly off the production line as GM predicted. In June of 2009,
Pontiac G8’s had officially been discontinued.
Honoring the G8 Today
If you are one of the lucky few who managed to get their hands on a Pontiac
G8, you should be proud. The vehicle truly is a strong testament to fine
engineering and forward-thinking in the automotive market, despite its
early discontinuation. In a way, part of the excitement of cars comes
from the fact that you never know what is going to be the next big thing,
and what is going to fade into legend.
At HP Motorsports, we are always thrilled when a unique piece of machinery,
such as a G8, rolls onto our lot. It provides us with not only a chance
to admire and honor the vehicle but also improve its capabilities. From
custom motors to
power adders, there is always a way for us to find how to take something great and
make it greater.
